6 Winners Announced for Downtown Lafayette Competition
The goal of the [Imagine Downtown] Lafayette competition is to bring forward new and innovative ideas for invigorating Lafayette's urban core while uniting surrounding neighborhoods. Entrants chose between six Nike Uptempo Nike
sites in Downtown Lafayette, each with a unique set of assets and challenges and then proposed specific solutions. The winning work encompassed wonderful ideas on how to increase affordable residential and mixed use density; accommodating parking needs; reinforcing existing plazas, parks and streetscapes; strengthening pedestrian and bikeway connectivity to surrounding neighborhoods and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's main campus; facilitating public transportation; and developing a sustainable urban condition.
"This project is a perfect fit for Creative Action because we are really about generating new and innovative ideas for Acadiana and showing people what is possible here we will soon be posting the winning designs for [Imagine Downtown] on our website and social media," said Colin Miller, Chairman of Creative Action.
Founded in 2011, Creative Action is a community group based in Lafayette, LA whose mission is to leverage Acadiana's creative assets for economic gain.

winners of the [Imagine Downtown] Lafayette Open Ideas Competition that concluded on January 30th. The winners' projects were selected anonymously by a jury of architects and urban planners that included Silvia Vargas , Justin Garret Moore, Steve Oubre, John Knott and Jonathan Segal. The winners they selected include three teams from US cities Houston, Portland, and Chicago and three foreign teams from Slovenia, China and Italy. The winners will receive a cash prize of $1500 each. Work from the competition will be exhibited in at the Acadiana Center for the Arts during the month of April 2013, with the opening reception to be held 4 until 6 pm on April 13. Walkthroughs of the exhibition with the competition's organizers will be available during INNOV8, the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Nike Uptempo Release Commerce's eight day festival of innovation and creativity.

The [Imagine Downtown] Lafayette project is comprised of a partnership between Creative Action, Urban Land Institute Louisiana, AOC Community Media, UL School of Architecture and Design, and the Acadiana Center for the Arts. This partnership hopes to build public interest in Lafayette Consolidated Government's ongoing comprehensive planning process and the Downtown Strategic Framework Plan.
